Help to Buy is Changing – Reserve Before 15 December

Did you know that the Help to Buy scheme is not reserved for first-time buyers? It is also open to existing homeowners who want to move. But that’s all about to change…

Under the current Help to Buy scheme, you can buy a beautiful new build Blueoak home worth up to £600,000 with just a 5% deposit.

The government will then lend you up to 20% of the property price to assist your purchase and you won’t be asked to pay any interest for the first five years.

That leaves you with a 75% mortgage, helping you to sidestep the current shortages for people wanting to borrow an 85% mortgage or higher.

However, from next year, Help to Buy will be available to first time buyers only and regional price caps will come into force too.

For existing homeowners, this means you will no longer be eligible for the Help to Buy scheme. You will need to save up for a larger deposit in order to purchase a new home.

For first time buyers, you will still be able to use the Help to Buy scheme but only for homes up to a value of £224,400 (in the North West) instead of the current £600,000, reducing your selection of homes.

Each and every one of our homes is finished to a high specification. With open plan living spaces, high quality fixtures and fittings and the latest appliances to boot, a Blueoak home boasts a ‘ready to move into’ finish.

To ensure you can still make the most of the current Help to Buy scheme, both first-time buyers and existing homeowners will need to reserve a Blueoak home before 15 December 2020.
